The purpose of the Coxton Lake Environmental Preserve (CLEP) is to assure the non-pollution of an important watershed that feeds Coxton Lake and Leech Creek while preserving the serenity and natural beauty of 210 acres of forest land in its natural state in perpetuity. The easement allows building on two acres of each lot, CLEP may be used for recreational purposes that will not disturb the health and tranquility of the natural forest land.
In the 1990’s the Zerebak tract, consisting of 210 acres, was for sale. There was a concern that the land could be developed, jeopardizing the watershed to the lake. Bob and Diane Vernon, Jack and Ann Koslowski, Reiny and Carol Ludin, and Linda and Lew Lee came together with the idea of purchasing the land and putting it into a nature preserve. The group worked with Barbara Yeaman of Delaware Highlands to establish the parameters of the easements on the land. Lake owners were asked to contribute to the purchase and future maintenance of the tract. The 210 acres were divided into six individual lots. Five of the lots were bought by individual families, and one lot is overseen by the CLEP board. Many families (listed below) contributed to the preservation of this vital watershed. The preserve is under the aegis of The Delaware Highlands, and the board of CLEP is the non-profit entity that oversees the sixth lot (aka the CLEP lot). The CLEP board consists of the owners of the five individual lots and an at-large member from the Lake community. The current members are: Diane Vernon, Jack and Ann Koslowski, Jane Ludin (secretary), Debbie DiMicco (President) and Bruce DiMicco (treasurer), and Sarah Kaeck (at-large).
We list below the Lake families who contributed to this environmental cause. We are forever grateful for their support that allowed the preserve to be established to help protect Coxton Lake.
